Dear Friends,

What a delight last Saturday’s All Church BBQ was. So many people, so much food, so many blessings…

It all came together on Saturday but the work started more than a month ago. A big thanks to that first vision team who came up with the idea. Then there were those who lead the division of labor groups. There was the printing of posters and tickets, selling of tickets; gathering of tents, chicken, ribs, serving supplies, ice, garbage bags,… Some folks working late into the night and returning early in the morning to do the preparations – potato pealing, table set up, vats of chicken marinade and cases of soda.

If you were involved in any of that you deserve a big thank you. Costs were kept low because you donated food, supplies, time and labor.

You are invited to join your fellow United Methodists for a night of    basketball as the WNBA Seattle Storm take on the Los Angeles Sparks at Key Arena on Saturday, August 21. The festivities start with a pregame presentation of Nothing But Nets at 7:45 pm with game tipoff at 8 pm.

Tickets for this excellent evening are available to United Methodists for only $25 per person  (regularly priced between $28-$34). With the support and partnership of the Seattle District, Tacoma District, and the Office of Connectional Ministries, a significant portion of the ticket sales will go directly to Nothing But Nets. Please contact Anna Conklin  (206.870.6803, aconklin@pnwumc.org) at the Office of Connectional Ministries to purchase your tickets.

Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to combat malaria, on of the largest killers of children in Africa. The people of The United Methodist Church have been in partnership with this campaign since it inception. You can learn more about Nothing But Nets online at www.NothingButNets.net

Terrific Thursdays

This summer let’s join for fun and adventure. Each
Thursday of July and August kids and adults are invited to join for a day of fun. Last summer on Wild Wednesdays we did a variety of activities – swimming at Lincoln Park, Northwest Trek, water play at the church, Bike day, Seattle Center, Seattle Aquarium, Seattle Storm game, and more.

Some days 5-6 people participated. Other days 40 people joined in. This summer we will be looking for Event Sponsors. Sign up to plan a Terrific Thursday. Rev. Jan will provide a sign up sheet.

Think about an adventure you would like to take this summer and invite your church friends to go along or plan an event at the church. Questions and ideas can be checked out with Rev. Jan.
